Disciplinary Steps

For your child to attend Grace Christian School, it is necessary for you to sign an agreement concerning corporal punishment. Whereas we do not relish the idea of using this deterrent, we do believe there are appropriate times for such action. We would like to sit down with each parent and discuss this option. Remember the best time to address an undesirable behavior, is promptly.

Teachers continuously guide students with general corrections and minor redirections. Teachers may choose to use verbal correction, stand in the corner, demerits, removal from recess, detention, swat on bottom, or any other deterrent they deem necessary to stop unwanted behavior. As we are responsible for the safety and welfare or your child, please understand we will not tolerate any abuse to your child.

More serious infractions that are not tolerable will be documented and the following Disciplinary Steps will begin:

  1. The student will be counseled. The unacceptable action will be discussed. The administrator and student will pray for guidance and change of heart.
  2. The second time this occurs, the administrator will meet with parents where counseling and prayer will continue.
  3. Upon the third time, the administrator will set up a meeting with the school board to discuss the future of the student with GCS. At this time the student may be suspended or dismissed.

Let us look at Biblical Scripture concerning conflict resolution and discipline.

Matthew 18:15-17 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church.”

Proverbs 19:18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.

Proverbs 23:13-14 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death.

Proverbs 29:17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.
